Hon. Chris Carney
As a former Member of Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District, and a former professor of political science at Penn State University, Chris can actually say he knows Congress inside and out.
Carney serves as a Vice President at Federal Advocates, bringing his deep experience in national defense, homeland security, intelligence, cybersecurity, transportation, and veterans’ affairs to the firm. Drawing upon his time as a Naval Officer, and as a former Presidentially-appointed Commissioner on the Military Compensation and Retirement Modernization Commission, Chris credits his fluency in “military” speak as one of the reasons he has been able to represent security-focused clients of the firm. His time at MCRMC is also why he is so frustrated by hyper-partisanship in politics today. At MCRMC, he worked for a bipartisan body whose sole goal was to improve the personnel and budgetary issues for our military and veterans. It showed him that true work can be done if people of goodwill focus on the mission and forget about politics.
A Blue Dog Democrat while in Congress, Chris was assigned to the Transportation & Infrastructure and Homeland Security Committees, and with his significant experience on both issues, was appointed Chairman of the Management, Investigations, and Oversight Subcommittee as a freshman member. But, although he might not admit it, Chris is especially proud that he got the opportunity to sing “All You Need Is Love” with Bono in Statuary Hall in the Capitol.
Chris is also a member of United States Institute of Peace International Advisory Council, a Senior Scholar at the Foreign Policy Research Institute and holds a Masters degree in International Relations from the University of Wyoming, Laramie and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
